Of everything that makes our body, the name ‘the most fragile ones’ has been often linked to the receptive structures called bones.Even though they are surrounded by muscle power for their own protection and several other purposes, they tend to break when extreme pressure is applied from any given side. The joints at both ends of a bone enable us to move our body parts freely. While it is important to keep them both safe and sound, we often end up breaking them, which results in improper physical functions and chronic pain.

Only when you reach the late 20s, your body achieves what is called as the peak bone mass. However, it is also the phase where we are eager to work hard to settle down in life. It is essential to add calcium-rich food during that period to keep our bone healthy and strong. Post that, the middle age is the most critical period for the bones and joints. With metabolism slowing down, particularly the bone strength of women goes down rapidly resulting in knee related issues. Your menopausal transition paves way for the hormonal level fluctuations, which also accelerates the loss of bone strength. It is the age where we become the victim of bone and joint related conditions.

At Fortis, we provide precise assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a wide range of bone and joint conditions. With our swift action, we not only manage the conditions but also makes sure that you will be back to your routine lifestyle in no time. With our expert team equipped with cutting-edge technologies to deliver the best care, we are here to take care of all your musculoskeletal issues. Our team of Orthopedic Surgeons takes care of various planned yet complicated procedures such as knee replacement, hip replacement, shoulder replacement, elbow replacement, anterior cruciate ligament/posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, knee/hip elbow arthroscopy, back surgery, spinal and peripheral joint injections. When it comes to trauma patients, we deliver the utmost care to emergencies include fractured neck of femur, lower limb fractures, upper limb fractures, spinal fractures and several other musculoskeletal and soft tissue conditions.

Areas of Care

The procedures performed here include, but not limited to

Hip Resurfacing & Total Hip Replacement

Hip Arthritis, the rubbing of bone on bone causing severe pain, often occurs due to the damage of cartilage on the ball and socket of the hip joint. Hip Resurfacing gives an opportunity to shave and cap only a few millimeters near the joint surface, rather than opting for Total Hip Replacement.
In Total Hip Replacement, the damaged ball and socket present in the hip get a complete replacement. The alternative ball and socket are generally made of a combination of three materials - plastic, ceramic or metal.

Total Knee Replacement surgery

Either due to ageing or an accident, the knee gets damaged. Those damaged surfaces are removed during this surgery and gets replaced with an artificial knee joint made of a combination of three materials - plastic, ceramic or metal.

Shoulder Replacement

The shoulder is often exposed to impingement or a tear happens on the shoulder rotator cuff. This surgery will help to replace the damaged shoulder joints. The natural movement of those joints can be restored with this.

Ankle & Elbow replacement

Our team of Orthopedic surgeons does small joint replacement surgeries like ankle and elbow. In the Elbow replacement surgery, the damaged humerus and ulna get a replacement made of artificial components.

Arthroscopy

Similar to Endoscopy, this allows the surgeon to look inside the damaged knee using a camera, which is being inserted by doing small cuts in the skin.

Orthopedic Physiotherapy

This applies for the patients who are undergoing planned surgery and also the ones who suffered a traumatic accident or incident. Except the emergency situations, when a patient approaches us with a set of problems, we explore the possibilities of arresting their issues and treating their conditions through Physiotherapy. Only when the surgery is the only way, we will opt for the same. The initial assessment of our Orthopedic Physiotherapy usually lasts between 15-30 minutes. Various areas are tested and analyzed during this assessment. It includes,

  • Joint range of movement
  • Adapted faulty posture
  • Muscle strength
  • Muscle tightness
  • Altered sensation
  • Current mobility with or without walking aids
  • Review of activities of daily living
  • Listening to your breathing/chest assessment

The results obtained during this assessment determines the treatment plans, which will be discussed with you before implementation. The treatment can include,

  • Range of movement exercises
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Transfer practice
  •  Mobility practice (with an appropriate walking aid if required)
  •  Progression of mobility (if using a walking aid) including gait re-education
